Phenergan Elixir contains:

• Active Ingredient: Each 5ml solution contains 5mg of the active substance promethazine hydrochloride.
• Other Ingredients: Hydrogenated glucose syrup (maltitol liquid), orange juice flavour, caramel (E150), sodium benzoate (E211), sodium sulphite anhydrous (E221), sodium metabisulphite (E223), ascorbic acid (E300), citric acid anhydrous (E330), sodium citrate (E331), acesulphame potassium (E950) and water.

The dosage varies depending on age and what you’re treating:

For allergies (e.g. hay fever, rashes, and hives):

• Children aged 5-10 years: Give one to five x 5ml spoonfuls as a single dose, or one to two 5ml spoonfuls twice a day. Do not give more than five 5ml spoonfuls a day.
• Children aged 2-5 years: Give a single dose of 2 x 5ml spoonfuls, or one 5ml spoonful twice a day. Do not exceed two 5ml spoonfuls in a day.
• Children over 10 years and adults (including the elderly): Start with two 5ml spoonfuls twice a day. If needed, this can be increased to a maximum of four 5ml spoonfuls three times a day.

For treatment and prevention of nausea and vomiting (such as travel sickness):

• Children aged 5-10 years: Give two x 5ml spoonfuls the night before travelling. If needed, the dose can be repeated after 6-8 hours.
• Children aged 2-5 years: Give one 5ml spoonful the night before the journey. If necessary, this dose can be repeated after 6-8 hours.
• Children over 10 years and adults (including the elderly): Give five x 5ml spoonfuls the night before the journey. This dose may be repeated after 6-8 hours if necessary.

As a short-term sedative and for short-term treatment of insomnia:

• Children aged 2-5 years: Give three to four 5ml spoonfuls as a single dose at night.
• Children aged 5-10 years: Give four to five 5ml spoonfuls as a single dose at night.

Phenergan Elixir can cause drowsiness or sleepiness, which may continue into the next morning. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel sleepy or drowsy after taking it.

Do not take this medicine if:

• You are currently taking or have recently taken (within the last 14 days) a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) for depression.
• The person using the medicine is under two years old.
• You are allergic to promethazine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in Phenergan Elixir.
• You are unconscious, in a coma, or suffer from severe dizziness, drowsiness, or headaches.

If you're unsure, you must talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before you take Phenergan Elixir if:

• Your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to lactose or certain sugars; consult them before taking this medication.
• You have increased pressure in your eyes (narrow-angle glaucoma).
• You experience a stomach blockage or have difficulty passing urine.
• You have epilepsy.
• You have difficulty breathing, wheezing, or tightness in the chest (asthma) or an infection in your lungs (such as bronchitis).
• You suffer from any serious heart conditions.
• You have liver or kidney problems.
• You have hearing problems.
• You have had Reye’s Syndrome or suspect you might have it.
• You are currently taking any other prescribed medications.

If any of these conditions apply to you, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Phenergan Elixir.

Do not take Phenergan Elixir if you:

• Are currently taking, or have taken within the last two weeks, any monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression.
• Consume alcohol. Alcohol can interfere with how Phenergan Elixir works and may increase the risk of side effects.

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Please note - Phenergan Elixir should not be taken during the last two weeks of pregnancy as it may affect the baby after birth.

If you are breastfeeding, you should avoid taking Phenergan Elixir, as small amounts may pass into breast milk and could be harmful to your baby.

Always discuss with your healthcare provider before using any medication while breastfeeding.
